A birthday party is a wedding compressed forty times: same moving parts — guests, invites, food, a room, a cake — minus the year of runway. Four weeks is enough for almost any party if the right things happen in the right order. Here is the order, kids' parties and grown-up ones alike.
4 weeks out: the three decisions
- Pick the date — and a backup. For kids' parties check the school calendar; for adults, beware long weekends when half the list travels.
- Draft the guest list. Everything downstream — venue size, food, budget — is a multiple of this number. Decide now: kids-only or families, plus-ones or not.
- Book the venue (or claim the living room). Play centres, trampoline parks and restaurant back rooms book out about a month ahead in season. Home party? Confirm fridge space and a rain plan instead.
